- LETTERS, Page 6TRUMP IS THE NAME
-
-
- More power to Donald Trump (PROFILE, Jan. 16). I love his
- style. He's a man who does his own thinking. I'd like to see what
- he could do with the U.S. presidency. Maybe someone has finally
- come along who can fill this country's needs.

-
- Your report on Trump accomplishes two things: it nourishes his
- insufferable ego and makes everyone else sick.

- I thought your cover story on me was badly written and very
- shallow. A comment in the column "From the Publisher" noted that
- one of the great strengths of the Profile section has been to give
- readers a multidimensional look at people. This profile was
- certainly single dimensional in every respect and failed to include
- many aspects of my career that would have made the article a great
- deal more interesting to readers. While it is an honor to be on the
- cover of TIME, it is not an honor to be unfairly described.

-
- The report on Trump is one of the few stories that give the man
- a fair shake. It was informative and evenhanded without being
- overly kind and polite, yet showed his personal side.

-
- You neglected to mention a very special facet of Trump: his
- humanitarianism. Several months ago, the grandchild of one of our
- teachers had to be flown from the West Coast to New York for
- life-saving medical treatment. One call to Donald Trump's office
- resulted in his arranging for his private jet with three nurses to
- fly the patient round trip at his own expense.

-
- There are other rich people in the U.S., but I can think of no
- one else who elevates conspicuous consumption to the status of a
- public virtue.
